A WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL

The schedule is finished and juniors and seniors are busy choosing their classes for the 2009/2010 school year.  If you are not yet registered for next year, please do so as soon as possible so that you can have first choice for classes this coming school year!

I am always asked, “What will be new and better next year at VVCS?”  We are proud to say that there will be several new classes that we are excited about.  First, Mrs. Cruthers will be using her experience to bring AP Psychology to our campus.  Another new AP class we will be offering is AP European History.  Both of these classes have been added in an on going effort to make our AP program the strongest in the area.  I am very confident that this year’s scores will be the highest since we began our AP program.

For our international students, we will be adding an ESL class to our schedule.  This class will be taught by Mrs. Clarkson.  Finally, we will be offering two new semester Bible classes for our juniors and seniors.  The first semester will be “Understanding the Times” and the second semester will be “Apologetics”.   Our parents can rest assured that academics continue to be a critical element of our school.

Scheduling For 2009-2010

We have begun creating schedules for our students for next year.  We are starting with juniors and seniors and working our way down to junior high.  We are only scheduling those students who are registered for 2009/2010.  If you have not yet registered for next year, please do so as soon as possible before some of the more popular classes are full!

VVCS STUDENTS IN ACTION

Sophomore KELLY JUNG has advanced to the final round of the Dan Stover Music Competition at the Desert Springs Marriott in Palm Desert on May 30th.  She will be vying for a $5,000 scholarship.  She has already qualified for at least $500.

Our baseball team won its first league title since 2000.  They will be a top seed going into the playoffs and are ranked 14th in CIF division VI.  Our softball team has also made the playoffs and is ranked 3rd in CIF division VII.

Golf finished 2nd in the Agape League and qualified for CIF team finals. JOSEPH CONWAY has qualified for the individual finals.

Boy’s Track and Field were Big Sky JV League Champions and the Girls finished 3rd.  SETH GORDON was named Most Valuable Jumper for the small school division.

FINAL EXAMS

Seniors will be taking finals from May 26th to May 29th.  Grades 7 through 11 will be taking them from June 8th through June 11th.  These exams are VERY important to your child’s semester grade, comprising 20%.  If a student is not scheduled for a final during a particular final period, they are not required to be on campus.  If they are on campus, they must be in the gym where there will be supervision.  Finals end at 11:00 a.m. and we ask that all students be picked up by 11:30 a.m.  Those still on campus will be signed into Afterschool Care.  The finals schedule will be e-mailed to you the last week in May.

Please note: NO FINALS WILL BE ADMINISTERED EARLY.

ACADEMIC AWARDS NIGHT

The Academic Awards Night is Friday, May 29th, at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.   On this evening we will recognize the students that each teacher has chosen as the top student in their classes.  We will also recognize all students who have earned an academic letter.  This list is attached to this e-mail.  In addition we will announce the Athletes of the Year (Junior and Senior High School), the 2009 Salutatorian and Valedictorian, and the winner of the highest award at VVCS, The Christian Witness Award.  We are looking forward to a wonderful evening!
