A WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL

This past Tuesday, Victor Valley Christian School held its annual New Student Open House for the 2009-2010 school year. Hopefully you saw the announcement in the Daily Press one of the several times that it was in there. We host this night to show parents who may be interested in sending their child to our school all the advantages that we can offer them. We had students attend from a wide variety of public and private schools. These schools included: Serrano, Sitting Bull, Zion Lutheran, and New Life Christian to name a few.

As you know, registration for returning students began on February 2nd. I am very happy to report that we are well ahead of last year’s pace. Remember, a $100 deposit will save you a seat. Registration is now open to new students. If you are aware of any families who may be interested in our school, please have them contact us. Even at this early date, we are getting calls almost daily for information about the coming school year. Despite the economy, people still value the education their children receive at VVCS enough to make the sacrifices necessary to enroll them here. We are confident that our school will continue to grow!

ACCREDITATION

One of the first (and most important) questions we get from perspective parents is, Are you accredited? We have been accredited through both ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) and WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges).

During the last week of February, the joint accreditation team visited our campus as our latest 6 year term expires this year. While we will not get the final results until early summer, we are very pleased with how the visit went. The accreditation team was very impressed with the biblical integration across our curriculum and the instruction that reflects our biblical worldview. We also received commendations for our effective working relationships amongst all constituencies of the school.

VVCS STUDENTS IN ACTION

Congratulations to sophomore KELLY JUNG for finishing in 1st Place at the annual Dan Stover Music Competition sponsored by the Victorville Rotary Club. Kelly’s musical abilities will now take her to a regional level, and from there, hopefully to the national level.

Congratulations to the Junior High Math team for completing their first Math Counts competition. Mrs. Rashidyan’s troops went to California Baptist University on February 14 and competed against many large public junior high schools. The team included 7th graders ANGELO COLIZZI and TAYLOR RESENDEZ and 8th graders SAMANTHA HERNANDEZ and MATTHEW KIECOLT. Look for these students and the rest of the team to take on Hesperia Christian in the Math Olympics March 30th.

Congratulations to Mr. Barne’s Jazz band. On February 28th, he took nine members to Vanguard University for a Jazz festival and competition. The band received and "Excellent" rating for their first competition. Attending members included: Senior MEGAN CRUZ, Juniors JOSH HARRIS, JOHN WESTFALL, Sophomore JORDON MAAS, 8th graders JOSH STAYTON, DANIEL DAVIS, and BRYSON ANDERLIK, and 7th graders JOSH MARTIN and TAYLOR RESENDEZ.
