  A WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL

During Thanksgiving vacation I wrote a wonderful article about college admissions.  But due to events that have transpired during Spiritual Emphasis Week, I feel the need to save that article for January’s issue.

First, while I whole heartedly support the basic message given by the speaker, as principal I cannot condone images that were shown to our students and for this I apologize to all parents.  Sadly, while dealing with a topic that is so close to the pulse of students in all schools, these images took away from the presentation instead of adding to it.  They simply did not need to be shown to our students.  As an administrator I always try to err on the side of caution.  These images are not what we at Victor Valley Christian School believe are needed to make a point.

But as I stated, I stand behind the basic message.  We all need to be aware of what the music industry and other media is teaching our children, often without us being aware of it.  Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”  Our job as parents (I have four boys) is to train them to be productive Christians in this world (again, look at our mission statement).  The reality is this world is rapidly becoming more hostile to any Christians including our children.

In closing, I saw two items back-to-back on the news last night that I wish to share with you.  The comedian Jack Black (Kung Fu Panda) has made a video that is all over the internet.  In it he dresses himself as Jesus and sings as he openly mocks the bible as a book full of hate and useless rules.  Other well-known comedians join him, all in response to Proposition 8.  This story was followed by the announcement of this year’s Grammy nominees.  Do you know who has the most Grammy nominations this year?  Lil Wayne, the singer of the song that was the subject of Tuesday’s assembly.
