FORUM FOR COACHES:
Welcome
Coach Paul Hobbs, Varsity and Junior High Baseball Coach:
Coach
Hobbs brought a need to the Booster Club for a mound cover and two field
rubbers. Coach Hobbs feels to get
our field to the next level we need to tend to the mound.
This item will help firm and stabilize the mound and keep it safe from
the wind and rain. Through research
he came to us with a product, supplier and price.
The group discussed quality, donation possibilities and theft.
It was decided that Obie and Nanette would each make a call to the Quakes
and Mavericks respectfully and see about used equipment.
If there are no leads the group agreed to have the items ordered.
Coach Hobbs left the information with Nanette.
The mound cover is $514 +tax & shipping and the field rubbers are $70
each and purchased locally.
Welcome
Coach Keenan, Varsity Soccer Coach (this was the hat he was wearing tonight!)
Coach
Keenan brought a need for away jerseys for the soccer team.
His research has led him to the Euro Sport Magazine as a source for the
20 white, long sleeves with numbers for close to $25 each.
Athletic Department will pay for half so the Boosters agreed to pick up
the other half of an estimated $630 price tag.
Coach
Shelley Morgan, Varsity Volleyball Coach (via a submitted letter)
Coach
Shelley came with the need of some sort of thank you for her volunteer help.
The idea was agreed on as a great idea but some complications arose.
Obie is going to look up rules and standards on gifts/compensations for
helpers. He will get back to the
group in the November meeting and we will decide then if we can help and then
how much or what.
Welcome
Coach Obie Galindo, Varsity Softball Coach (hat he chose to wear while talking!)
Obie
came with the need for new batting helmets.
His research has them priced at $30 each.
After an interesting discussion about girls and their head sizes and how
many helmets a team needs, it was decided to give Coach Galindo $300 to spend on
helmets.
Welcome
Athletic Director Obie Galindo
Mr.
Galindo brought a need for new equipment in the weight room.
The school is working on a new location for this and would like some
financial help. See OLD BUSINESS
– A. 2. for the conclusion on this matter.
OLD
BUSINESS:
A.
Fundraisers:
1.
Coupon
Booklets: 253
cards were sold. Our overall winner
was Trevor Parkin of Cross Country selling 21 booklets.
Miriam and Felicianna both of JV Volleyball won a prize for selling 19
and 14 respectively. No other
athletes sold more than 5 booklets. Thank
you to the ICBs for your help in making this a profitable event for the
Boosters. Ideas for making it
better: Give the “raising money
for… “ so the athletes are working towards something.
2.
a.
The
deposit has been paid and the date is set for Monday Dec 8th.
The tickets should arrive in a couple of weeks.
We will get 200 tickets (Athletic Dept. sold 120 tickets last year). The
tickets will be for seats in a better area than last year and will be $35 each
with a profit of $18 a ticket going to Boosters.
b.
The
game will be VVCS vs Excelsior. Obie
has arranged for the teams to take Excersions and has reserved the school bus
for family, friends and students who wish to go and have purchased a ticket.
c.
Michelle
Hunt accepted the task of organizing this Booster event.
d.
The
group felt it would be important to give ALL future big events a purpose and
that would help the athletes sell better.
e.
It was
decided that all profits from this event will be given to “Project Weight
Room” to benefit all coaches and sports here at VVCS. Obie
asked if anyone has any fitness equipment they would like to donate, please
contact him.
3.
Half
Time Drawings:
Jim Bowerman was nominated to oversee the drawings but he was not there
to except. Nanette will contact him
and see if he is willing. At this
time Fridays Football drawing will be cared for by Nanette and hopefully Russ is
he is feeling well.
4.
Wreathes:
Kathy
is ready to go! As soon as teams
are picked she will work with Junior High Baseball and Softball, Varsity Soccer
and Cheer.
5.
Jerky:
We
are going to let it be right now. Maybe
in the Spring.
6.
Spirit
Items:
a.
Baseball
Shirts: Coach
Hobbs has requested that the Booster’s help the baseball teams again by
purchasing VVCS baseball shirts for players and ordering extras to sell to
parents, friends and family members as spirit items.
The Boosters did this with baseball hats last season and now need to
re-order them. The officers decided
to do this and Nanette has the design the team picked.
Nanette will get with Page and
b.
Baseball
Hats:
We need to re-order, only three hats left.
Nanette will get with Page about where and how many and get these
ordered.
c.
Towels:
Russ was not present with any pricing. Obie
said he would look into it.
d.
Athletic
Shirts: There
was a discussion over VVCS Athletic shirts that could be worn for ALL sports.
No real direction was achieved, just talked about it!
B.
Programs:
Obie
is going to work with Todd for pictures and John for layout to get a nice
program for this weeks Football and Volleyball games.
We have no ads to run at this time but we hardly advertised them at all.
We will start with the business that donated items for our half time
drawings. It was stated that we
could RenWeb the prices out (Page, our RenWeb expert?)
C.
Snack
Bars:
a.
Price
Changes: We
need to change some prices. Mostly
due to paper costs and serving sizes. It
was decided that nachos, nachos w/ chili, Frito pie and bowl of chili w/ and
w/out cheese would raise $0.50 each. Nanette
will change printed price lists. Michelle
says there should be enough numbers to change the menu boards.
b.
Inventories:
Carly
Netter will be taking over the inventory duties next week and will turn in the
inventories to Obie and Page who will get the shopping done until Nanette
returns in January.
c.
Sign
for building:
It was decided to get an indoor plaque to hang inside of both Snack Bars.
Obie will get correct wording and get it to High Desert Trophy soon so
they will be hanging for some football games this season.
d.
Snack
Bar Open Sign:
Obie has the hardware to hang the sign inside the gym and will take care
of it before Thursdays games.
D.
Homecoming;
a.
Special
Menu: We
should purchase chicken to BBQ and have a special dinner.
Price will be determined by cost. Nanette
will notify officers and decide. Page
can RenWeb to advertise.
b.
Early
Bird Coupon:
A concept that was talked about last meeting.
Nanette will create a coupon with Page to RenWeb out an Early Bird $1.00
off a dinner special before 6:30pm.
c.
Veterans:
The Veterans from
d.
Festivities:
Is there anything Boosters can do to help the festivities of the night?
Nanette will ask ASB if Obie and/or Page will get with Mr. Schnurstein.
One idea is to help ASB with the cost of some Hawaiian items to get help
create the theme.
NEW
BUSINESS:
A.
Contest
at Volleyball games: Nanette
brought up an idea to add some spice to the volleyball games.
At a CalStateSB game they had a serving contest in between games.
It was not to raise money but meant to BOOST the fan participation and
make the game fun. The coaches of
both teams and the referees would have to okay this.
Obie said he would look into it for maybe an Apple or Excelsior game.
B.
FAN
Night: We
have had 250 personal hand held fans donated to us.
We also have had some batteries donated.
At first it was talked about having a FAN night Football game but as the
weather turns cooler it makes more sense to go inside for a volleyball game.
We decided on Oct 14th JV and Varsity Volleyball Home Game
against Hesperia Christian. Free
fan with batteries to those attending the game (while supplies last!).
C.
Booster
Website:
Todd
Ivory has created a VVCS Booster Club website that at this time is linked to his
business website. Todd discussed
the endless possibilities for this website that currently has schedules, contact
info, away school directions and much, much more.
It is another great opportunity to advertise the Club.
Todd stated he would be more than willing to manage the sight for the
next few years if we would have him. He
negotiated a deal with his webmaster for us to move the site independently of
his for $15 a year for name domain and $5 monthly fee.
We talked about the addition of a shopping cart but the price tag of $400
was a little too high for the group. We
gave Todd the go ahead to move the site to www.vvcsboosterclub.org.
Todd will work with Page on the money side and get it done at his
earliest convenience. Page will
RenWeb the site location out school wide once it is in place.
Thank you to Todd for all his school spirit he has put into building this
site. We will put a Booster website
topic in all future agendas to help Todd keep the site current.
